When we received the email from a rescue in Oklahoma, asking us to help with Wally, we immediately said yes. It didn’t matter that he was a special needs dog that was missing one of his front legs. One look into those soulful eyes and we knew we couldn’t turn our back on him. He deserved to find a home of his own.
Friday morning house cat volunteers Kalin, Jennifer, and Charles work hard each week to get all the cages cleaned and litter boxes scooped out before the shelter opens at 11:00 am.
Meet Jack! Jack is a 6 year old Labrador Retriever who came to us in search of a new family. When he arrived, we discovered he had tears in the ACLs of both legs, hookworm, lungworm, a mast cell tumor, and a broken canine tooth with pulp exposure. Thankfully Jack has received most surgeries and has recovered nicely.

Laura Lithio is such a dedicated volunteer that even on her weekends off, she often comes to the shelter just to hang out with the house cats.
The staff of the West Suburban Humane Society don't have to go looking for animals to help. The animals find us: Dogs, cats, bunnies, even guinea pigs get left on our doorstep or walk through our doors every day.
A chance to cuddle with some lovey dogs is the main attraction for the volunteers on the Thursday 11-2 Kennel showing shift.

When the West Suburban Humane Society rescued Chip, a German Shorthaired Pointer, he had been living outside at the end of a chain. He rarely received attention and could move only as far as the chain would allow him. So when he came to live at the shelter, we were thrilled to give him the love and exercise he so desperately needed.
