Animal control facilities vary vastly from one to another depending on county funding, residential support and the level of compassion the workers have for animals. Picture a small concrete shed down a dusty path in rural south-western Illinois.
On March 16, 2020, Christina Morrison assumed the position of Development Director of the West Suburban Humane Society.
The Tuesday morning kennel shift can be compared to the Harlem Globetrotters. They are quick on the court, they always know where each other is and are ready to catch the pass, and they have fun while slam-dunking their way through the kennel.
West Suburban Humane Society was one of 31 DuPage County not-for-profit organizations to receive a grant at the DuPage Foundation’s Holiday Open House held on Wednesday, December 11.
While choosing a dog at the pound, many people are looking for the perfect dog. A dog they can play fetch with for hours, snuggle up to on the couch after a long day, and especially one that listens to their every command.

It was the luckiest day of Toby’s life when a WSHS supporter called the shelter about an injured cat she found. He was an unneutered male stray, trying to make it through outdoor life without being attacked by other males.
When you walk into the cattery on a Wednesday afternoon, you will be greeted by up to 30 cats and four welcoming women! Janice Mack, Karen Putnam, Tracy Tureson, and Julie Appler love getting to know all of the cats that stay in the cattery until adoption.

Meet Jim Grabowski! Jim is a Wednesday mid-day kennel volunteer and also a WSHS donor.
Communication, cooperation and a “can-do” attitude sums up the Wednesday evening kennel cleaning crew. This group of volunteers is willing to do whatever it takes to keep WSHS dogs healthy and happy!

Several months ago, we received a call from a WSHS supporter about a paralyzed dog that needed help. Carrera was found on the streets of Chicago by a Good Samaritan and was taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control.
